3rd Annual Junkyard Welding War
The Junkyard Welding War, a welded sculpture competition, is co-sponsored by The Chanute Art Gallery, the Chanute Chamber Tourism Committee, and Thompson Brothers Welding & Industrial Supply. It fuses community art with recycling.
The Junkyard Welding War is open to a team of up to four members or an individual. The sculpture must have a safari theme. There is no registration fee, but donations are welcome. Sculptured pieces may be offered for sale. The registration form should be completed and returned to the art gallery by April 14, 2018.
Participants can begin work at any time, with the sculptured pieces to be in place in the Irene Hudson Pocket Park in downtown Chanute no later than 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018. The public is invited to view the results of this free, family-friendly event in the park between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on April 28. A winner will be determined by popular vote, and Thompson Brothers will present a 100-dollar gift certificate to the winner.
