Chanute Heroes Way

Jesse Jackson

Chanute Heroes Way is a project between the Chanute Historical Society and the City of Chanute.  The purpose of this project is to create an outdoor display in which plaques are placed on stones in order to honor those in our history that have made significant contributions towards molding the pride and/or standard of living in the City of Chanute and or nation.  Each plaque will have information on how the individual shaped/changed Chanute and or our nation.   A committee has been formed to accept nominations for such individuals.  Ash Grove Cement Company has graciously donated large stones to be placed on the walk/bike path behind the Chanute Historical Museum and Depot Building.  The stone that was previously located at Main and Evergreen honoring Jesse Jackson has been moved and is now first on this display.

Any citizen that would like to nominate someone should do so by filling out the Nomination Form here and return it by April 7, 2017.  The last page lists the criteria in which a nominee will be reviewed with.  The committee will review the nominations and choose two (2)  on April 11, 2017.  The first two (2) plaques will be placed on their stones on Memorial Day, May 29, 2017.   Future deadlines for additional stones will be forthcoming.

Nomination Forms can be downloaded from this site or picked up in person at the following locations:  City's Manager's Office (2nd floor of the Memorial Bldg), Comforts of Home or any committee member.  The forms should be returned in the same manner.
